How the 1st Responders Appreciation Squad started…
In 2023, God led Carmen Wisenbaker to start the “1st Responders Appreciation Squad” where she is the Volunteer Coordinator. The group shows 1st Responders (Firefighters, EMT’s, and Police Officers in the Humble, Texas community), appreciation for their service through a Prayer team, a Card Writing team, an Appreciation Basket team that delivers baked goods and tasty treats periodically to each station and other projects throughout the year.
Our main objective is to lift the spirits of our 1st Responders and to let them know our community is behind them one hundred percent. We always try to find ways to encourage and support our 1st Responders in any way we can. They are very important to our community and we are so grateful they do what they do.
Showing gratitude and respect to those that serve our communities (in the Humble and Atascocita, Texas communities) in our times of need.
Thank you to our faithful Police Officers, Firefighters, and EMT’s for always being there when we need you the most. We are so thankful for you!
We show thankfulness to our 1st Responders through various teams:
• Our PRAYER TEAM prays a simple prayer each time they hear a siren.
Our prayer is:
“Heavenly Father, we lift up these1st Responders responding to this call and those they are responding to. Lord, protect them all and if it be in your will—may all things go well. In Jesus Christ we pray.” —Amen
• Card Ministry – We also get together and write CARDS OF APPRECIATION which we deliver to each station we serve. And we write CARDS OF CONGRATULATIONS or other types of cards for different situations.
• Appreciation Basket Ministry – Our GOODIE BASKETS include lots of home baked goods, such as cookies, cupcakes, specialty breads, cakes, pies, etc. Our team bakes up some really tasty treats!
• Fun Contests Team – The CONTESTS we host showcase the 1st Responders hobbies or special talents. These might include painting, photography, wood working, writing or sharing their best recipes for those that like to cook. Winners are awarded various gift cards throughout the year.
• EXTRA PROJECTS – BOOKS: Hosted by our publishing company, Penworth Publishing, we periodically publish specialty books that we distribute to our 1st Responders which include: Humor books, Coloring books, Famous Quotes, and Inspirational books. There are even times we host a contest to have them name the book project we’re working on.
• COMMUNITY SPEAKER’S BUREAU: We book our 1st Responders as speakers and presenters for various programs to local groups. This helps to inform and share safety tips and events hosted by our 1st Responders.
